Community Kitchens/tummy Tamers

CALGARY, AB | Sunday, January 07, 2007

The project is in Calgary, Alberta only. We have joined with Community Kitchens, which is an organization that works to end hunger in the community. They receive donations of food from various businesses and distributed it to need families and schools. The two programs that we are closely associated with are the Food For Thought and the Tummy Tamers programs.

Food For Thought provides hot lunches to schools in high needs areas of the community. Humpty's support allows for more schools to enjoy this program and to help Community Kitchens with the cost of project. We have volunteers to staff these events and will spend a few hours interacting with the children. Of course our mascot is the biggest hit when we visit the school.

The Tummy Tamer program is in conjunction with the City of Calgary Parks and Recreation department. Each summer the City of Calgary puts on summer day camps all around the city. Community Kitchen provides snacks and hot lunches at many of the locations of the day camp programs. Our role in the program is to entertain and reward some of the great kids that attend these day camps. Each week Humpty visits one site and hands out little gifts for all the children. There is a game that is egg related each week and we provide prizes for the winning team. As well we provide one lucky child with a certificate for their participation and attitude in the program. Along with the certificate is a $20 gift certificate for the child to treat their parents to a meal. Each week we see the value in a program like this and are rewarded by the smiles, hugs and handshakes from the children. To learn more about this and other great programs visit Community Kitchens Student of the Month Some of our locations have a Student of the Month program with a local elementary school. This program enables teachers to reward their students at no cost to the teacher or school. The award that we give is generally a certificate of achievement and some smaller promotional items (pencil, bookmarks, etc.) "Fun"raising There are some locations which offer 1-2-3 "Fun"raising nights. It is quite a simple program. We offer these fundraising opportunities Sunday to Thursday, we print the invitations and it is up to the group to disperse the invites to their teammates, friends and family. The group will come on their chosen night and 20% of all sales brought in by the group (G.S.T., P.S.T. and alcohol excluded) are donated back to the group.

This is a great way to get together with your team, group, organization or association and raise some money. From Brownies and Girl Guides; from hockey teams to soccer team; from church group to community associations the opportunity is endless. The amount you can raise rests sole on the number of people you bring together.

Please contact Lisa Attewell at (403) 269-4675 or by email to see if your neighbourhood Humpty's has "Fun"raising nights.
