First Stores Opening At Design Pointe

Businesses are starting to open at Design Pointe, a shopping center specializing in home improvement goods on the city's northwest side.

Thomasville opened a furniture store in the development, near Route 59 and Brookdale Road, on July 15, one of the first businesses to open.

Also open are Rug Decor and Designs of the Interior. Other businesses due to open include Caribou Coffee, Curtain Exchange, Prairie Loft, Garage Store and More, Galleria Concord and Luna Flooring Gallery.

The Naperville Luna Flooring store is one of four suburban locations due to open Oct. 1. The others are in Wheeling, Lake Zurich and Addison. The company has one store in Schaumburg.

Brad Emanuel, who owns and manages the Thomasville store, said his family had wanted to open a store in Naperville and began considering the Design Pointe space in mid-2006.

"We think it's a great concept," he said. "It's part of a - we hate to use the word one-stop-shop - but it's easier for the consumer because they can park one time and go out one time." The other two suburban Thomasville stores are in Lincolnshire and Geneva.

Construction is continuing at the site, including driveways that open onto Route 59 and work on individual stores and buildings.

"I'd say we expect it to be fully leased next year," he said.

The city approved the project in 2005, and by the time construction began, stores were scheduled to open in the summer of 2006.

"Development is not an exact science," Sorce said.

He said the company was considering one or two more similar developments in the area.

"We feel there's a need for it, there's a demand for it and it's something that our tenants have asked us, are we going to duplicate this development in other markets," he said.
