True Value Company announced today that Brent A. Burger has been elected to the cooperative's board of directors, joining the board as a member director.

"Brent brings a strong background in franchise operations management and marketing, as well as hardware retail experience to our board," said Brian Webb, True Value Company chairman of the board. "With his proven track record as an entrepreneur, and also as a co-op member, I'm confident Brent's counsel will help True Value and its members experience continued growth and success at retail." Burger began his professional career in 1986 with TCBY Enterprises, Inc., as the youngest franchisee in the company's history. He owned and operated four TCBY units until 1994, when he was hired by TCBY corporate to serve as a franchise consultant and division manager for 68 units within the New England division. Subsequently promoted to regional vice president of operations for the Western region, Burger managed the development and construction process for 86 new TCBY locations and created a product cost analysis program, which TCBY adopted and made proprietary. Before joining True Value Company, Mr. Burger served as district manager for Starbucks Coffee Company in San Francisco. His board experience includes service as chairman of the business relations advisory committee for the Town of Blacksburg (Va.), as director for the Greater Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce, and in positions on advisory boards for Agway Dealer Stores and TCBY Association Franchisees. Burger earned a bachelor's degree in English with a concentration in business from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, and currently resides in Oakland, Maine.
