New Honey Dew Donutsļæ½ Holiday Gift Card Program Adds Local Flavor To National Retail Phenomenon

Sunday, November 12, 2006

This year, there's something new under the tree at Honey Dew DonutsĀ® . For the first time in it's 34 year history, the New England purveyor of coffee, donuts, bagels and related pastries, which has not only survived but thrived alongside national chains in recent years, will introduce a holiday gift card program. Launching this month, just in time for all those last-minute shoppers, the Honey Dew DonutsĀ® gift card program has been embraced by franchisees, with near chain-wide participation.

If last year's sales are any indication, gift cards will again be a hot item, and now there are some local newcomers to this national retail trend. "A gift card program makes especially good sense for the local chain like Honey Dew because of our extremely loyal following -- customers who come into our shops as part of their daily routine would love to receive one of the new gift cards," commented Dick Bowen, Honey Dew DonutsĀ® founder and chief executive officer Bowen expects the new gift cards to heat-up sales during what is already a brisk period for store traffic. "Coffee sales have traditionally been red-hot in November and December as a result of the cooler weather and people being out and about getting shopping and other holiday errands done," explained Bowen. "Now, they can get their coffee and finish up their holiday shopping when stopping off at their local Honey Dew shop." Gift cards are available in any amount without a fee. Honey Dew has also launched special coffee promotions for the holidays, with its 2 lb coffee available for a special price. And, gift card purchasers will receive a free medium cup of coffee with the purchase of a $10 gift card. A print and outdoor advertising campaign will support the new promotions.

Headquartered in Plainville, Massachusetts, Honey Dew DonutsĀ® opened its first shop in Mansfield, Mass. in 1973. More than thirty years later, 150+ Honey Dew DonutsĀ® shops and a business philosophy that emphasizes the "local flavor" have made Honey Dew's coffee, donuts, muffins and other pastries a staple for New Englanders. Founded by Richard J. Bowen, Honey Dew DonutsĀ® shops are committed to serving the communities they serve though scholarship and other local initiatives.
