When RightTime KiDS opened its doors in 2002, it was dedicated to providing safe, fun and convenient drop-in childcare to meet the demands of parents of children ages 18 months to 12 years old. As a pioneer in this fast-growing segment of the $37 billion childcare industry, RightTime KiDS was one of the first places where kids could spend a few hours having fun while parents ran errands, relaxed over dinner, or enjoyed a game of golf.
"We knew the parents and kids we serve loved the convenience and professionalism of the services we provide," says Lori Klein, President and CEO of RightTime KiDS Franchising LLC. "But it was the entrepreneurs across the country who really flooded us with franchising requests, and made us understand the value of our business model. That led to the decision to start offering franchises this year." After doing a lot of research about franchising, Klein knew she had to make the RightTime KiDS franchise package as attractive to potential Franchisees as possible, to attract the best candidates and increase their chances for early success. "Our franchise package includes all of the operational things that any new Franchisee should expect proprietary software, operations manuals, marketing materials, training," says Klein. "But we've really added value by eliminating the one big hurdle that deters a lot of potential franchisees: getting the store built and ready for customers as quickly as possible, without headaches and stressful delays." Under its partnership with One Source Retail, RightTime KiDS provides franchisees with architectural layouts and build-out services, including a dedicated Project Manager who works with the Franchisee at every step of build-out. One Source Retail has managed all aspects of store build-out for national Franchisors, including LA Sunset Tan, Max Muscle Sports Nutrition and Three Dog Bakery, but the "Store In-A-Box" concept is still rather new to the franchising industry.
According to Mike Hojnacki, Chief Executive Officer of One Source Retail, partnering with a dedicated build-out specialist has benefits for both Franchisors and Franchisees. "By partnering with One Source Retail, the Franchisor is guaranteed a more consistent brand image at a lower cost structure than if they worked with local firms for each location's build-out," he says. "Franchisees benefit as well, because they can really focus on pre-opening marketing and learning the new business, instead of worrying about the details of store construction." Through its network of strategic partners and preferred vendor relationships, One Source Retail also expects to reduce the timeline for build-out. "We are working closely with RightTime KiDS and our network of suppliers to make sure architectural plans, fixtures, signage and other components are each delivered just-in-time for an expedited build-out process," Hojnacki says.
Although RightTime KiDS is still in the first months of offering franchises, Klein is confident that her Franchisee opportunity is one that will succeed in this economy. "Second to the mortgage, quality childcare is the main priority of parents," she says. "It is such a high priority, in fact, that it's the closest thing you'll ever find to a recession-proof business opportunity." Although some full-time childcare facilities are losing business as more parents become unemployed, demand for drop-in childcare is expected to grow as parents need more flexibility for part-time jobs, job interviews and other activities.
"RightTime KiDS provides parents peace of mind at a moment's notice when traditional childcare options are limited," Klein says, "and we are actively seeking highly-motivated individuals who want to own their own part of this national franchise business."
