The move is expected to be completed by July, one year after Red Mango got a $12 million cash infusion from Dallas-based CIC Advantage Holdings.
Also Online Veteran exec Antioco, Red Mango aim for national foothold John Antioco, chief executive of CIC Advantage, is also Red Mango's chairman.
"Having John and CIC there was a big part of the decision," said Daniel Kim, Red Mango's president and chief executive.
"And logistically, it's much closer to the rest of the country," he said. "We can develop as a nationwide system out of Dallas." The company, which has 50 locations, expects to grow to 80 by year's end. It hopes to have 500 locations within the next four years, Kim said.
The first Dallas location is set to open in August. Kim said that with the headquarters relocating here, more Dallas stores are likely.
"There's a lot of great pockets of retail shops [in D-FW] that haven't been developed with healthy treats," he said.
The company, which had $12 million in sales last year, plans to grow largely through franchising.
It'll seek North Texas franchisees at a recruitment seminar Monday at the Hotel ZaZa.
The first recruitment session for the brand, earlier this week in New York, attracted more than 220 people from 12 states and three countries, a spokeswoman said.
Red Mango and rival Pinkberry both have announced plans for rapid growth. So far most of Pinkberry's outlets are clustered in California and New York. But the company recently announced plans for "global and national expansion." Traditional frozen yogurt is sweet, resembling soft serve ice cream. The new sellers of "tart" frozen yogurt focus on its probiotics and live and active yogurt cultures. Because of the difference in the recipes, it tends to have a more tart taste.
The Red Mango move affects about a dozen California employees who plan to relocate. In February, the company opened its franchising office in Dallas's Uptown neighborhood. The transplanted employees will work there, for now, Kim said.
