IFA President and CEO Stephen J. Caldeira and Daniel Allen, executive director of the Employer Partnership Office of the U.S. Army Reserve, signed a Certificate of Partnership to funnel franchise prospects from the Army Reserve toward IFA's Veteran's Transition Franchise Initiative, VetFran, which connects veterans with discounts and incentives offered to veterans by franchise companies to help them get into franchising. In addition, VetFran participating companies will gain access to men and women who have expertise in executing systems gained from their military training.
"We are pleased to enter into this partnership with the Army Reserve to further help veterans buy franchises," said Caldeira. "Today, almost 400 companies are participating in the VetFran program and to date have helped nearly 2,000 veterans get into business for themselves through franchising. This new partnership will help us introduce franchising as a post service career option to even more honorably discharged military men and women." Overseeing the signing ceremony was Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Rep. Ike Skelton (D-Mo.). "I applaud this initiative to help veterans transition to civilian life through business ownership," said Rep. Skelton. "Our military personnel deserve all the support we can provide to help them achieve their career goals after they have completed their service." The partnership was finalized in Washington during the IFA's 11th Annual Public Affairs Conference Sept. 13-14. During the conference, more than 500 franchise business leaders met with congressional leaders to discuss several issues important to franchise businesses, including the Help Veterans Own Franchises Act. The bill, H.R. 2672, establishes a tax credit for franchised businesses that offer qualified veterans a discounted franchise fee. The tax credit would amount to 50 percent of the total franchise fee discount offered by the franchisor to the franchisee and would be capped at $25,000 per unit. In addition, the bill provides a tax credit to the veteran to purchase a franchise and open a business in their local community. About the International Franchise Association The International Franchise Association is the world's oldest and largest organization representing franchising worldwide. Celebrating 50 years of excellence, education and advocacy, IFA protects, enhances and promotes franchising through government relations, public relations and educational programs. Through its awareness campaign highlighting the theme, Franchising: Building Local Businesses, One Opportunity at a Time, IFA promotes the 21 million jobs and $2.3 trillion of economic activity generated by franchising.
