Orange Leaf Frozen Yogurt already has 72 stores open and 35 under construction nationwide. A deal with a franchisee in Indianapolis will add 20 stores by summer 2012. In Louisiana, five stores are open and 10 more are under contract. Lexington, Ky., will be the site of 15 new stores by year's end and six new stores are planned in San Antonio.
And the first international store is planned for Melbourne, Australia, in late 2011.
Orange Leaf is based in Oklahoma City and owned by Mike Liddell, chairman of Gulfport Energy. Reese Travis, a former University of Oklahoma football player and Liddell's son-in-law, is chief executive officer.
"Anyone can say they"re the biggest, but the fact remains that we"ve built more stores than anyone in the industry. We"re the one to watch," Travis said. "We may not be the biggest yet, but our rate of growth certainly is." The company also will have a presence at the Indy 500 this weekend when it provides yogurt to hundreds of guests of the Panther Racing's National Guard and Fuzzy's Vodka sponsored teams, driven by J.R. Hildebrand and Buddy Rice, respectively.
