Jackson Hewitt Franchise Opens In Milford

Mike Amin thinks everyone should turn to a professional when it comes times to prepare state and federal income taxes this year. He also has a suggestion on where: Jackson Hewitt in Milford.

Amin opened the new Milford franchise a few weeks ago, just in time for tax season. For Amin, the Jackson Hewitt branch in Milford is his fifth, and he plans on making it his business headquarters. Business is good, too, he said. Having five locations now, he plans on opening more locations in Commerce, Highland, South Lyon and Wixom next year. He currently has locations in New Hudson, Commerce and a few near Ann Arbor. Ultimately, he said, he plans on owning 20 franchises.

"Milford will be the main office," said Amin. "I really like the town. This is the heart of the different locations." Since opening Jan. 17 in the Mill Valley Center, Amin and his staff have started to become part of the community, joining the Huron Valley Chamber of Commerce and donating services for upcoming fundraisers like the Senior All Night Party. "We want to support the community, be a part of it," he said.

Each of Amin's Jackson Hewitt branches hires local residents as tax preparers. In Milford, Amin said he has more than 100 combined years of experience.

Jackson Hewitt is a full-service tax preparation agency, dealing with both personal and business taxes.

The Milford location features individual offices, which helps customers feel more at ease, said Amin.

"We want you to have privacy," he said. "We don't want the person in a cubicle next to you hearing what you say." Preparing taxes should take no longer than an hour, and fees are based on the complexity of the tax documents. Those filing a federal 1040EZ form can get that done for free. Discounts are also offered for seniors and students, according to Amin.

Customers coming in to the store will meet with a tax preparer and discuss their tax liability and possible deductions before inputting all the information. Jackson Hewitt offers free audit assistance and can look over previous returns for accuracy. If any inaccuracies are found, the company will reimburse its customers for any penalties or interest charged because of it.

When he joined Jackson Hewitt as a franchisee, Amin said he shopped around with the different companies. He said Jackson Hewitt offers better prices and service than other franchises he researched.

"It looked like they offered better value to their customers," said Amin. "They have 24-hour support. I like what they do." Jackson Hewitt is located at 525 N. Main St., Suite 220, by Starbucks. Hours through tax season are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., as well weekend hours. The office will be open two days a week the rest of the year.
