Pizza Pizza, an İzmir-based Turkish pizza brand, aims to open its first foreign branch in Baghdad, and it also aims to develop in Russia and the Middle East in 2010, said Tolga Turker, Pizza Pizza managing director.
Speaking during the press meeting in İzmir, Turker said Pizza Pizza is growing very fast in Istanbul and in other cities of Turkey. Currently, there are 24 branches in Istanbul, he said. The company aims to increase its branches to 60 in 2010, he added.
Noting that by 2012 the overall number of Pizza Pizza branches is planned to reach 300, Turker said: "Turkey knows Pizza Pizza. Now it is time for foreign countries to meet with Pizza Pizza. We are planning to open new Pizza Pizza branches in foreign countries. We continued our sustainable growth even in the crisis period thanks to our new investments." "We will open our first foreign branch in Baghdad in March. We completed a master franchise agreement with Iraq's Al Hayrat company, which is active in fields such as, construction, medicine, oil and food. Our aim is to reach 10 branches in two years in Baghdad. In a very short period of time, there will be Pizza Pizza branches in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh city, Sochi of Russia, Tashkent of Uzbekistan, Ukraine, other cities in Iraq and Belgium. Our aim is to open 100 branches in five years in foreign countries," said Turker.
Turker said in order to achieve its goals, Pizza Pizza started a new franchise application called "Open today, pay next year." In this system, the company requests an assurance letter from the distributor and the distributor pays the cost of the restaurant next year, said Turker. All the investment cost is paid by Pizza Pizza Company and management rights belong to the entrepreneur, he added.
This is a very lucrative business opportunity, as the distributor can get the feedback of the restaurant within 26 months. The company does not request any copyrights. Pizza Pizza is planning to open a production plant in Istanbul this year with an investment of $5 million, Turker said.
Pizza Pizza produces 19,000 pizzas each day and 7 million pizzas in a year, he said. Pizza Pizza receives 120,000 calls in a month, he said, adding that in 2010 the employment figure will increase to 2,800 from 1,650 with the new branches.
Commenting on a question related to the increase in meat prices, Turker said some menus have changed because of the costs, and also, change in consumer habits brings change in the menus.
