Bonanza Franchise Owner Looking To Come Back To Market

The Bonanza Steakhouse that was destroyed by a fire in October will likely be rebuilt, but when the rebuilding process will begin � and what the restaurant will look like when construction is completed � is up in the air, according to Jon Rice of Homestyle Dining LLC, the parent company of the Bonanza Steakhouse restaurant brand.

The South Middleton Township franchise owner will likely announce his plans within the next few months, Rice said.

"I think he's keeping his options open and looking into various possibilities, (but) I know he's interested in coming back into that market," he said. "Our senior management has been involved and trying to facilitate him in any way that we can." The restaurant was gutted by a fast-moving fire that spread through the restaurant during the early morning hours of Oct. 19.

While the extensive damage to the building has made determining an exact cause of the fire difficult, state police fire marshal Michael Rugh said Friday he does not suspect foul play.

The fire likely originated in the ceiling of the restaurant, Rugh said, where several potential fire hazards � including heating, ventilation and air conditioning units and utility pipes and wiring � are usually located. Also, "if someone was going to do something intentional, it's very difficult to start a fire up in the ceiling area," he said.

The cause is still officially undetermined, but the police investigation has been closed, he said.
