Mr. Appliance, Mr. Electric and Mr. Rooter Offer Tips to Keep the Holidays Merry

The character's lives featured on ABC's hit television show, Modern Family, showcase the trials and tribulations today's "modern family" faces and the graceful (but sometimes not) resolutions the characters reach. Sister service company's Mr. Appliance, Mr. Electric and Mr. Rooter have created a short list of three lessons to be learned from both the characters of Modern Family and the service experts in their industries that can help keep the holidays merry and bright. From Claire Dunphy and her overbearing perfectionism to Cam Tucker's zest for theatrics and Jay Pritchard's no-nonsense preparations, follow these tips for a happy holiday season.

No one wants to start cooking the turkey and end up with a house full of smoke. Before Claire Dunphy returned to the corporate world, she attempted to keep the Dunphy home in perfect working condition, which should include a holiday check-up on the oven. "A home's oven gets quite a workout during the holiday season," stated Mary Kay Liston, vice president of Mr. Appliance Corporate. "The last thing you want is to smoke a house full of people out due to residue burning while the turkey is cooking." Liston suggests cleaning the oven prior to the holiday season to ensure a smoke-free home and perfectly prepared dishes. For chemical-free tips on cleaning the oven, visit the Mr. Appliance blog.

Before the guests arrive, holiday decorating should be well underway. Cam Tucker, who is known to use the phrase, "Prepare to feel like an old denim vest, because I'm about to be-dazzle you," thoroughly enjoys creating lavish, over-the-top holiday scenes. Jeff Meyers, president of Mr. Electric Corporate, encourages customers to keep in mind the cardinal rules of holiday light safety. "Fires caused by decorative lights start hundreds of fires each year, but can be avoided with a few simple pre-hanging inspections," he instructed. "Start by checking lights for broken or cracked sockets, frayed wires and lose connections get rid of lights that have any of these malfunctions. In addition, only use outdoor lights outdoors and vice versa, don't overload your extension cords and - remove lights following the holidays." In true Jay Pritchard fashion, the house should be prepped for incoming freezing weather to save the home and wallet from costly damage. "Oftentimes, homeowners find themselves unprepared when winter weather hits," Mr. Rooter President, Mary Kennedy Thompson offered. "It's best to prepare for cold weather before it hits or you could find yourself paying for expensive repairs." Thompson, a certified plumber herself, gave ten tips to help save a homes pipes this winter. "Pipe insulation is very important when freezing weather hits. In addition, be sure to keep your facets running just a constantdrip will work when temperatures fall below freezing for more than 24-hours." Each week, the characters from Modern Family regale viewers with lessons on the importance of love, forgiveness and understanding. By examining the trivial anecdotes of life, Modern Family turns a mirror on the average American family, teaching lessons applicable to everyday life. While preparing for the holiday season, take these tips from Modern Family, Mr. Appliance, Mr. Electric and Mr. Rooter to heart.
