We had a big goal of changing the local residential cleaning landscape but had no experience of actually running a service based business," said Jaime Kulaga. "Wes and I desperately wanted to learn how to avoid some of the mistakes but we were traveling down a road that had never been traveled before." A turning point occurred a few months ago when Jaime reached out to a fast growing cleaning company called Two Maids & A Mop. At the time, the company operated twelve company-owned locations in five southeastern states. Jaime noticed that the company was contemplating the idea of franchising the brand. So Jaime picked up the phone and asked if they would be interested in making Tampa their first franchise destination.
"Jaime's call was a pleasant surprise. It was obvious that she possessed a ton of energy and it was even more obvious that we were dealing with an extremely intelligent person," said Ron Holt, President of Two Maids & A Mop. "After researching the local market and meeting with Jaime, we made a decision to select Tampa as our first franchised location." Two Maids & A Mop has experienced exponential growth over the past few years, being selected as the 2012 National Maid Service of the Year and, most recently, being recognized as Inc. Magazine's fastest growing cleaning company in America. The company has historically grown its business using company-owned locations but the idea of franchising became a real possibility after the company teamed up with the International Franchise Association. The idea of franchising became reality just before Jaime's fateful phone call.
"I absolutely love the fact that we no longer have to worry about our future. We may be the first franchise but Two Maids & A Mop has been in business for more than ten years. These guys have experienced just about everything and have provided us with tremendous support. Best of all, we can barely keep up with the phones," said Kulaga.
Two Maids & A Mop unique approach to the cleaning industry allows its customers to run the show from start to finish. After each cleaning, customers are asked to provide feedback on a scale from 1-10. The number rating is then used to directly determine an employee's total compensation level.
"Our innovative Pay For Performance Plan has always been our trademark. Every single employee understands that their entire compensation level is directly tied to customer feedback. There's absolutely no greater incentive to perform at a high level than tying compensation to customer feedback," said Holt.
Jaime and Wes are excited that yesterday's problems are in the rear view mirror. "It's so exciting right now," Kulaga said. Business is booming and our stress level is way down compared to just a few months ago. We can't wait to resume our dream of building Tampa's best professional maid service!"
