Gold's Gym Patrons Win As Arnold Schwarzenegger Goes Undercover For A Good Cause

Wednesday, January 22, 2014

Arnold Schwarzenegger is trying to get you pumped up "" and it's all benefiting a good cause.

The former bodybuilder and California governor went incognito, or about as incognito as he can get, at Gold's Gym in Venice, Calif. Schwarzenegger, assuming the role of a personal fitness instructor turned regional manager named Howard, attempts to interact with unsuspecting patrons at the gym. His goal: Raise awareness and money for afterschool programs through the After-School All-Stars charity.

The "Terminator" star probably isn't winning any acting kudos, but the two-and-a-half-minute clip has its moments. Some gymgoers immediately know Arnold is in disguise, while others walk by and pay him no attention.

Schwarzenegger then begins coaching random people on their technique "" and not just when it comes to pumping iron.

"Drinking a lot of water? That's good," Schwarzenegger tells a woman at the water fountain as he hovers near her. "Because, remember, 75 percent of the body is water. Keep drinking, because you're not finished yet with the water drinking."

Strangely, the woman obliges, so Schwarzenegger continues the act.

"Remember, we do everything in reps," he says. "So you've done two reps of water drinking. Usually we do 10 reps of everything, so do another rep of water drinking."

The actor even instructs her on proper technique when rising and lowering her upper body to the fountain. She finishes the 10 reps and offers Arnold, err Howard, a solid high-five.

"Oww! Why you hit so hard?" he exclaims.

Other highlights include Schwarzenegger teasing one guy to show off his guns and yelling at another, "This is Gold's Gym. This is not a baby's gym." There's a parting shot of the 66-year-old admiring photos of his younger bodybuilding self on the gym's wall.

The video has almost a million views. Through a link in the video's description, you can register to win a day with Arnold that includes riding in a tank. Proceeds from the contest benefit After-School All-Stars, an organization whose mission is "to keep children safe and help them succeed in school and in life."
