Golden Chick Construction Takes Flight

Construction has kicked off on a new Golden Chick restaurant. The eatery will be located at 22002 U.S. Highway 281, near TPC Parkway on the far North Central Side.

The 2,300-square-foot store is scheduled to open this June.

This will be the eighth Golden Chick restaurant in San Antonio for local businessman Allen Tharp, who is both a franchisee and a shareholder in the Golden Chick chain, headquartered in Dallas.

The new store will employ about 50 people. It is in a prime location to feed off of a growing base of business in the area.

The new restaurant also will be near some high-profile subdivisions including Cibolo Canyons.

Tharp also has the rights to develop the Golden Chick brand in 10 countries in Asia.

In fact, he will open his first Golden Chick in Shanghai, China on April 15.

Tharp, who is also the founder of the Lion & Rose British Restaurant & Pub, originally considered taking this concept overseas. Then he realized how big the chicken concept is in China.
