When did you open?
I officially opened May 12, but there was an extensive training program I had went through beforehand.
How did you get into this business?
I was looking to do something on my own and I hooked up with the gentlemen from the You Network, they deal with franchises across the country. They do a "get to know you kind of thing" and place you with a couple of franchises where they think you would fit and I just kept going back to the Fish Window Cleaning. It just seemed to be the most logical choice. The corporate support is fantastic; it's a proven business system.
What is the best thing about the business?
The best thing about it is, it's my business. Typically window cleaning is a Monday through Friday business, and coming from retail, I haven't had weekends off my whole life. The proven business model was certainly attractive to me, and they're the only nationwide window cleaning company there is. They're definitely a good brand, and I figured with my customer service skills and business background, it was an easy transition!
What's the biggest challenge facing you/your business?
The biggest challenge is getting out there and growing the business. It's a lot of just getting out there and pounding the pavement and cold calls. I've been doing that and so far, so good.
What makes your business unique/ what is your specialty?
We provide a service and whether it be commercial or residential, everybody's got windows. That's the service we provide to people want to keep their business looking fresh, and their houses. People are strapped for time and it's a convenient service, so they can have one less thing to worry about.
How do you attract and keep customers/clients?
To attract customers I'm going out there and doing cold calls, I am also on the Internet so if you Google "window cleaning" in Norwell, I should certainly come up. The corporate office helps out with that a bit as well. They have a marketing program and they will be mailing out brochures and letters to businesses in my territory, and if I get in touch with businesses that have multiple locations and the decisions are made at the corporate level, I can get a contact and the office will certainly help out with that. They have some national accounts that are exclusive to Fish so if there are any of those around us they will set us up with them too.
