Why? To deprive its citizens of Wisconsin's most beloved export, Seattle suburb Bainbridge, Wash. banned cheese consumption today in preparation for Sunday, January 18, 2015, when the Green Bay Packers take on the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship game.
City Manager Douglas Schulze stated, "Due to the relationship between the Green Bay Packers, their fans, and cheese, the possession of and/or consumption of cheese or cheese flavored products shall be banned in Bainbridge Island City Hall on Friday, January 16, 2015." Toppers Pizza takes the real Wisconsin cheese that tops its made-from-scratch dough seriously. "The very thought of a government depriving its residents of cheese " it's beyond comprehension," said Scott Gittrich, founder and president of Toppers Pizza. "As soon as we heard about the ban, we knew we had to do something." To show support for its incarcerated driver and devotion to real Wisconsin cheese, Toppers fanatics are encouraged to submit photos holding a #LegalizeCheese sign in exchange for a coupon for a free large 1-topping pizza.
To qualify, all photos must be sent to www.facebook.com/ToppersRocks or www.twitter.com/ToppersPizza by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015; one coupon per person.
