'Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill' brings Caribbean fare to South Main, Houston, TX

A new bakery and Caribbean spot has debuted in the neighborhood. The fresh addition to South Main, called Golden Krust Caribbean Bakery & Grill, is located at 8236 Kirby Dr. Houston, TX

This Houston newcomer - which has outposts throughout the East Coast and the South, and also recently debuted a location on Westheimer Road - specializes in Jamaican-style patties, sandwiches, wraps, pastries, and more.

On the menu, expect to see entrees like curried goat with veggies and rice; braised oxtail with rice, peas, and plantains; jerk chicken; and whole fried fish served Escoveitch style, with krust pastry.

For patties, options include the "Chee-zee" with spiced ground beef and cheddar, curried chicken, or mild beef.

Rounding things out are breakfast items like callaloo and cod fish with whole tomatoes, and sides like fried plantains, dumplings, and rice and peas. (You can check out the full menu here.)

The new bakery has already attracted fans thus far, with a 4.5-star rating out of four reviews on Yelp.

Candice R., who was among the first Yelpers to review the new spot on December 1st, said: "My family and I tried this place the second day after it opened. It was really yummy. The employees were very friendly and welcoming."

Yelper Pat R. added: "I'm so glad another Caribbean spot has opened up. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The vibes in here are on point and the food is on point!"


And Ivy L. said: "I opted for a mild beef patty (they have spicy as well), a chicken curry over plain rice and a side of the mac and cheese. The chicken curry was tender and delicious, with a hint of spice. Definitely filling and flavorful."
