Potbelly Sandwich Shop to aggressively franchise in 2019

Potbelly Sandwich Shop is launching a franchise growth strategy to expand into major metropolitan areas across the United States, Jeff Welch, SVP of Development for Potbelly, said in a company press release.By the end of this year, Potbelly will have opened eight franchise locations, including shops in North Carolina, Texas and Minnesota. Additionally, Potbelly expects to open 10 locations by the end of 2019, throughout the Midwest, Southeast and areas adjacent to existing markets.

"Everything we do carries a commitment to quality, and our franchise expansion plan is no different. Just like how we select high-quality ingredients for our menu items, we're seeking to award franchise opportunities to experienced multi-unit franchisees who have an unquestioned capacity to expand our footprint and operate the best sandwich shops in America," he said in the release. "Potbelly isn't just a sandwich shop, it's the neighborhood spot where the community can come together to take a break from a busy day. We are excited to reach new customers by way of our franchise expansion plan."

As Potbelly continues to expand throughout the United States, the brand is awarding franchise opportunities to qualified multi-unit groups who are looking to add another successful segment to their portfolio, according to the release.

Potbelly owns and operates more than 435 shops in the United States and franchisees operate over 35 shops domestically.
