Interim HealthCare, the nation's largest proprietary provider of home care and medical staffing services, has announced a change in leadership with the appointment of Al Sorensen as the Chief Executive Officer. He succeeds Michael Schundler who resigned after completing a very successful restructuring of the company. Sorensen joined the company, then Labor Pool, in 1962 as a sales representative in Chicago, Illinois when there were only six offices and annual sales of $1 million dollars. He was made President in 1967 serving until 1989. Sorensen became a minority owner in 1974. In 1969, the company moved from Chicago, Illinois to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and changed its name to Personnel Pool of America, Inc. and then again to Interim Services Inc. in 1992 and later to Spherion Corporation. (NYSE) H&R Block, Inc. acquired the company in 1978 and Sorensen became the Chief Executive Officer until September 1991. In 1989, he was also named Chairman. Sorensen served on the board of directors of H&R Block from 1979 until September 1993 when Interim Services Inc., was spun off in an initial public offering completed in January 1994. In September 1997, Interim HealthCare spun off from Interim Services and later that year Sorensen resigned as chairman and director of Interim Services Inc. to become an investor, consultant, director and vice chairman of Interim HealthCare Inc. which he helped found in 1966 as part of Interim Services Inc. In 2002, the Board asked Sorensen to return to the company and assume operational leadership as COO. Founded in 1966, Interim HealthCare is the nation's oldest proprietary national organization providing health care personnel at all skill levels in all settings.
