Seth and Meg Shapiro live and work on Capitol Hill, and their six-year-old son, Mitch, attends school in the area. Now, they plan to open the first franchised Marvelous Market across from Eastern Market. Devoted to their neighborhood, this enterprising duo plans to create a quality, convenient and community-based retail market. The couple met freshman year of college at Tulane. Friends until junior year, they fell in love and have been a team ever since. Their first food foray was a breakfast and lunch diner called ‘Just Around the Corner' in Atlanta.

After having Chinese for lunch, Meg opened her fortune that read: "Your goal is just around the corner." Hence the name derived from the innards of a sugar cookie.

During the four years operating the diner, the Shapiros learned a great deal about food, customer service and restaurants. With the birth of their son in the year 2000, the couple said goodbye to Atlanta and their diner and made their way up to DC. In DC, Seth joined Marvelous Market Corporation, while Meg became a Hill realtor. But "Just around the Corner" didn't end with their move north. Seth's company is the force behind the first Marvelous Market franchise. Walking by the lease sign on the Stanton Development property across from Eastern Market, Seth realized immediately that it was a gem of a location with its wrap-around patio. A Hill resident, he knew the massive amount of foot traffic on the corner of Seventh and C Streets. With the backing of corporate, Seth renovated the space using mostly local contractors. Now, the work is almost completed.

"Marvelous Market is a good fit for this community. For people who value their time, quality food and convenience, our retail food-market is for them. Capitol Hill has an array of unique stores, and our establishment will fit into this niche," says Seth.

What makes this Marvelous Market distinctive is that Seth and Meg are also members of the Hill community.
