1-888-Wow-1Day is the conceptualization of Brian Scudamore and Jim Bodden. Scudamore, of course, was the founder of 1-800-Got-Junk, who recently met Bodden, a professional painter, when getting an estimate on house painting.
As the story goes, Bodden presented Scudamore with a painting estimate, equal to his competitors in pricing but far different in performance""Bodden offered to complete the job in a single day, to the quality and level any consumer would expect.
"I was a little skeptical, but when I came home that day, floor to ceil, trim, molding, everything was done immaculately, some walls even with three coats of paint"�I was blown away," Scudamore said. "I thought, "�What an amazing opportunity to try to build a business with Jim's painting experience and my franchising experience." Partnering up The two would come to partner in the creation of 1-888-Wow-1Day, taking on the painting world and revolutionizing the industry as Scudamore did previously in the junk removal world.
The new idea is off to a raving start, already with six franchises spanning Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Meanwhile, there are plans to expand to more than 15 franchises before the end of the year, with locations in Calgary, Alta. and Austin, Texas, to name a few. A 1-800-Got-Junk Halifax-based partner is also close to opening his own 1-888-Wow-1Day franchise, and is excited to be on board with the new venture.
By the end of the year, 1-888-Wow-1Day franchises will spread 15 North American markets.
"We absolutely will hit that goal. We are very much on track with a bunch of leads that we are pushing through the pipeline right now. It is exciting," Scudamore said. "For a business that was incubated a year ago, at least as its rebranded 1-888-Wow-1Day name, it is pretty cool to see how quickly we have been able to take a business model in junk removal that was all about servicing the customer and using our call centre to have a really great "�wow"� experience in your first point of contact.
"Our PR system built the brand. Everything we have learned in franchising and building a business, we were able to take and springboard into a new business, and we have had good early success." Past experience, future success 1-888-Wow-1Day has used the 1-800-Got-Junk model to springboard to success. Accordingly, the two founders strongly believe in the system, people, and processes that will allow the new company to be successful and grow quickly. On the heels of the success of 1-800-Got-Junk, the 1-888-Wow-1Day is experiencing the many synergies that exist between the two companies.
So successful, the 1-888-Wow-1Day idea was able to develop in tougher economic times, a period when many others in business are more focused on staying out of the red. There are big expectations for 1-888-Wow-1Day: To become a $75 million business in the next five years. But considering the expertise of its founders, it's a logical expectation as well.
"With a $100 million business like 1-800-Got-Junk, growth is a lot more difficult. With 1-888-Wow-1Day, it is really a green field opportunity for us, good economy or not, and we expect some really strong growth," Scudamore explained.
"The potential marketing alliances between the two companies are very similar, letting customers know about both businesses. Once we get our footprint spread throughout North America, we see that as a massive opportunity for us, letting the 1.5 million customer base of 1-800-Got-Junk know who we are and what we do." That foundation of business experience is a luxury that will propel the new business ahead even quicker than 1-800-Got-Junk in the past.
Quality customer service In a case where a job may be too daunting to complete in a single day, as Bodden explained, 1-888-Wow-1Day offers its One Day Vacation special, which includes an overnight stay at hotel accommodation and a $100 gift card to a restaurant of your choice, compliments of 1-888-Wow-1Day.
This touch of service is also seen at the end of a job, when 1-888-Wow-1Day hires private cleaners to make the house spotless of any paint mess.
Homeowners are left with a personal touch of fresh cut flowers, extra paint for any touchups, and a greeting card signed by the entire crew. Homeowners are welcomed back to their freshly painted home, leaving that lasting "�wow"� impression.
"My favourite part of the business is that we are revolutionizing the painting industry. We are not just trying to build another painting business, we trying to turn the industry upside down.
